“Resonance invites viewers to reach beyond wave forms and cloud forms and ranges of mist obscured mountains, beyond rocky summits, precipitous slopes and shadowy ravines, toward depths of field within which a spacious luminescence holds sway.

One senses however that we are not entering a landscape of this world, for earth, water and vapour appear disembodied somehow, and either becalmed or drifting in a state of suspended motion. All is tranquil and raised to a heightened significance, and this would be the limit of the experience, were it not for the quality of light.

According to a deeply rooted sympathy, we feel more than usually drawn, as though the depth of field so skilfully portrayed in each painted landscape were resonating with landscapes of heightened significance within, from the depths of which light flows forth from the centre of our being.

If that light could speak, it might speak of the marriage of remoteness and intimacy. It might speak of a harmony uniting inner and outer worlds, or it might repeat the poetic observations of enlightened sages:

Only the inner light illuminates eternity

Only that light can guide us back home

Lao Tzu, c. 5th-century BC

So in addition to being artworks of rare and transporting beauty, these paintings can act as sadhanas, or objects for meditation, that invite us to reinhabit the luminous stillness at our core.” - Dr Ewen Jarvis

Here’s hoping you're well and enjoying a fresh start to 2021 wherever you may be.

It's been quite some time since the last newsletter. Like many of us, 2020 seemed to put a large pause on a lot of things in my world. One thing I am very grateful for however, is the ability to continue painting in the studio, even when all of my 'Art Therapy' sessions were put on hold during Melbourne's double lockdown. I'm so pleased to have had the opportunity to create a body of new paintings, and would love to invite you to help celebrate the opening of this exhibition on February 6th, 2021 at Eagles Nest Gallery in the Victorian surf-coast town of Aireys Inlet.

This new body of work, titled 'Resonance', invites the viewer on a journey across oscillating landscapes to connect with our luminous essence. Waves and mist travel across the surface of these paintings illustrating the constant sound and motion of the vibrating universe, whilst encapsulating the seemingly stationary realm of form. An area of spacious light in each of these works symbolises our primordial resonance with the greater whole.

These paintings offer a visceral experience synchronizing one’s inner being and the external world. A sense of connection guided or inspired by something greater than self, while at the same time reflecting a return to home.
During this time of great external turmoil individual and collective fear may very well have reached an apex. This series of paintings may act as Sadhanas, or objects for meditation, inviting the viewer to reconnect with the stillness that is our essence.

An enormous thank you to everyone who made it along to the opening and who made the trip to see this series of works during the two month exhibition at Eagles Nest Gallery. I’m simply thrilled by the glowing feedback and honoured that several paintings found their way to your homes.
