Liminal Horizons - Final Week

As we enter the final week of my current exhibition, Liminal Horizons at & Gallery in Sorrento, I'd love to extend an enormous thank you to everyone who was able to make its down to the opening celebration during this busy time of year.  If you haven't seen this new body of work as yet, there's still time. The exhibition closes on Sunday 28th December.

“Nerina Lascelles’ practice occupies the charged space between the tangible world and the unseen forces that shape it. In Liminal Horizons, the artist turns her attention to the threshold — that uncertain yet potent moment between what has ended and what has not yet begun. It is a territory humanity now knows intimately: a collective pause in which old certainties dissolve and the future remains veiled. Lascelles’ landscapes are not depictions of place so much as invitations into states of being.

They evoke the ancient element of Earth — not as something fixed or immutable, but as a living ground in transformation. Across terrains where the old paradigm crumbles, subtle wisdom surfaces: quiet truths long buried beneath material distraction and cultural saturation. Through her alchemical layering of pigment, metallic leaf, and resin, light becomes an active presence. It slips through fissures, gathers along horizons, and reveals what was once concealed……

Echoes Beneath the Surface | Mixed Media on Canvas | 150cm x 150cm

In Lascelles’ hands, illumination is both symbol and guide — a force that helps us navigate the threshold with clarity and grace. Influenced by the shifting atmospheres of southern Victoria — its vast skies, luminous coasts, and transient light — her paintings weave natural forms with Eastern philosophy and symbolic language. Celestial golds meet earthly ochres; horizon lines dissolve into meditative fields; the physical and the metaphysical coexist in quiet tension.

With a career spanning more than 30 years and exhibitions across Australia and internationally, Lascelles’ work has found homes in collections around the world. Liminal Horizons extends her long-standing exploration of transformation, continuity, and inner stillness. It offers viewers a contemplative passage — a place to stand inside uncertainty, to witness the dissolution of the familiar, and to sense, however faintly, the emerging shape of what comes next.

This is Nerina’s second exhibition at & Gallery.”
